The round 6 Match of the Week in the Machineseeker EHF Champions League 2024/25 saw a thrilling attack-focused battle between Füchse Berlin and Paris Saint-Germain, ending with the French team taking a 40:38 victory. PSG right back Yahia Omar picked up the Player of the Match award following a superb performance for his side, but was not the only standout in the game, as the likes of Luc Steins, Jannick Green (both PSG) and Mathias Gidsel (Füchse) had stellar outings as well.

That brings us to the end of the live blog coverage of this round's MOTW! PSG have now moved up to 10 points on the group A table and occupy first place, awaiting Veszprém's result against Sporting to see if they end the round there or share with the Hungarian side. Füchse stay in fifth position on six points and are left waiting for their fourth win of the season. 

Two players in this MOTW are now first and third on the season's top scorer chart — PSG line player Kamil Syprzak in first on 47 goals, and Berlin right back Mathias Gidsel in third on 39.

It's hard to defend Luc Steins. He's small. Very fast. Together with the pivot, it was really hard to defend him. So we got 40 goals — that's too much to win a game.

Tonight's MOTW represents the first time the teams have met in any European cup competition. They did face each other in one international tournament — the IHF Super Globe in 2016, when Füchse beat PSG in the final to clinch their second trophy in a row. 

With that clash taking place eight years ago, the teams have changed significantly since then, and we have little idea what to expect tonight.

The teams have similar records in the EHF Champions League 2024/25, with PSG counting four wins and Berlin three. Neither team have drawn in their five games played so far. Last round, Füchse lost to Sporting while PSG beat Dinamo. Both also lost to Veszprém — Berlin in the season opener by one goal and PSG in round 2 by a decisive 13 goals.

One player taking the court tonight for MOTW has a particularly interesting story: PSG back Dani Baijens, who has returned to the Champions League after last playing the top flight in 2018/19 with Flensburg. Back then, Baijens played limited time and scored three goals total in his appearances — a figure he has already passed this season. 

Since 2018/19, Baijens has become a household name in handball, as part of the unprecedented Dutch generation who have put the Netherlands men's team on the map.
