Picks of the week
GROUP A
Top scorers: Kevin Gulliksen 15/18 (Elverum Håndball); Tin Lučin 9/12 (RK Nexe)
Nexe recovered from a defeat in the previous round to clinch an important away win that shakes up the group A contest. While Nexe had the upper hand from early in the second half, Elverum were always close behind. In the first period, the teams took turns with the lead — Nexe were in front through the middle portion then Elverum grabbed the edge in the later minutes, before the sides went to the break all square. The key moment that gave Nexe the lead they would never relinquish was a steal and fast break goal from wing Aleksandar Bakić, for 21:20, three minutes after half-time.
The Croatian side increased the distance up to a maximum of four goals and led by three several times as the second half progressed, but Elverum also pulled it back to a one-goal distance on multiple occasions and levelled once, 29:29 in the 48th. Twice in the last two minutes, Elverum were just one behind, before Tin Lučin sunk the winning goal off a penalty to decide the two points.
